I said I would write

SO...I told myself that I would try to write more than 160 characters and not just about the kids. I will explore the myriad of book ideas and pursue them like it's a job...and while they might not lead to various book deals or mega-million dollar movie deals, I know I'll enjoy birthing these stories just the same. However if they do become book deals and $$$movie deals...that will just be icing on the cake. As for this site, I promise not to "whine" too much and to celebrate the blessings and reflect on the challenges. Perhaps even make the effort to learn from the challenges and abstract what values I can learn from them.

Benign Nodules etc.

Been so busy the last few weeks. From getting a benign result for my thyroid nodules to backyard camping with 3 other families and in the middle of job interviews. I'm hopefully going to setup a new layout/focus for my blog in the next few months. Here are some areas I'll be focusing on:

  • living with 1 income home in Silicon Valley
  • food
  • health and fitness
  • values and philosophy
  • process of writing for children or about food
  • hobbies
  • the ins and outs of coping with the challenge of supporting the family as one parent goes of to business school(tentative, however will write about the application process

On the hunt...

Lots going on and excited about various opportunities that are brewing. Trying to stay focused and aiming to start sending out ms to various publishers. I guess I should join a writing group again to get these ms refined first.

Children's Book Writing Saga Continues

Someone I met a while back during the SCBWI workshops and meetings, was published recently. Amazing writer who was in a really dedicated writing group and now she's making her way around with a book tour. I'm so excited for her and makes me more motivated to get my butt moving on writing whenever I have free time. So I'm either writing online or in a journal trying to capture some funny things that B says or some mannerisms that C does. So many great memories and so many opportunities for some fun stories.

Resurrect this site

I need to get back into my writing routine. I know there's twitter and Facebook but I'm not quite sure they are the best venues for more contemplative exposition or even just free thinking that could eventually lead to a thought through piece. This could either be food writing or even some children's stories. But for now, I need to commit to writing every other day. And I guess today is the start. Oh and I need to lay off the sugar. So maybe my first essay will be about "sugar" and probably post my "Ode to Kare-kare" that I wrote for my food writing group.

Full on with Children's Writing

A great fundraiser to support a local non-profit coop preschool for disadvantaged families who live on the peninsula.

Family Connections Author's Night, November 8, 2006 at Hiller Aviation Museum.

Please come support this worthy cause that gives children an early chance to excel in school. This organization relies solely on donations and grants to survive, no monies from local, state or national government

Just got back from a Children's Writing Workshop in Davis, CA. It was quite tiring since there was so much information to gather on the process and to hear directly from an editor describe her process it was amazing. I'm probably going to submit my lizard story to her. I hope somebody picks up my storybook.

Just registered for another workshop that will be a whole weekend. A nice whole weekend to write and get critiques and to just learn more about the process of writing and getting published. Quite intense but it will be nice.
