Baby Stores closing shops

Baby Style just closed down their site. I guess that includes their shops too. I'm bummed. They had nice things but definitely pretty steep on the prices.

BabyCenter ended up closing their online shopping division and partnered with Diapers.com. I'm not surprised. They pretty much had the same merchandise. I actually really like Diapers.com since they deliver next day if you order by a certain time. If you plan to shop diapers.com please email me m (at) mywhine.com and I'll send you a referral coupon. I wonder who will be next to close down.

National Museum of Play

I think next time we plan an east coast trip, this museum is definitely on our list of visits. They have a hall of fame for toys too.

DadGear diaper bags

Very impressive lineup and especially demos. The backpack seems like an overkill as well as the messanger but very accessories oriented with great functionality. Of course to really appreciate the features, you have to watch demo.

Really Nice Maternity Clothes

Well not really for baby, but for soon to be moms. I thought Japanese Weekend was a really nice hip maternity/nursing line of clothes but I think Isabella Oliver is definitely it. The simple lines, but hip looking cuts, very flattering without being bling. I would definitely invest in a couple nice pieces that could go from maternity to nursing. For now I'm just glad I'm out of nursing tops and what not :)

US Formula also has melamine

FDA finds traces of melamine in US infant formula(AP News)

I'm so glad I never got a chance to go the route of formula bottlefeeding. I would be so freaked out right now if my only choice was bottlefeed with formula. What can you do?

There were a few times when she did take the bottle she got a a few oz of it, but definitely breastfed for more than a year. But even then it was the pre-mixed formula which were available in glass bottles(however with probably BPA lined tops). It's quite a challenge to be a parent these days and trust these big name companies to look out for our children's welfare.

I'm starting to wean her and it's not too difficult since she's eating alot more solids and enjoys drinking kefir. She doesn't care too much for cow's milk. I'll try to get her on goat's milk since it has more calcium and magnesium.

I urge my family and friends who are going to get pregnant or is pregnant, to really consider breastfeeding your baby(or at least pump as long as you can) just so you can reduce your child's exposure to these types of harmful chemicals.

Temporary Tats: Very Useful

SafetyTats

Let's parents put their contact info on a temporary tat in case the kid gets lost or if they have food allergies or medical conditions. Knowing how Brooklyn likes a fun adventure of wandering around, I can only imagine how I would lose sight of her easily.

Booster Seats...not the Spy Hunter Kind

WSJ did a review of various children booster seats. Some of their conclusions include a list of good and bad as well as what to consider for your child and the type of car you have. One thought to consider is that price doesn't always mean better for your child.

Really Nice Bags w/o Being Commercial or Cutsie

Zosephine Bags
I'd love to get this one for a messenger bag for style

But as I mentioned in a previous post, I'd get this bag for the charity/eco-friendly aspect. Rickshaw's Wee Generation Bag

However when I feel dressed down, I like to use my old Sherpani Trevina Messenger Bag.
I can just throw one of my changing pads from the other bags with a diaper and ziploc of baby wipes.

Slainte Bags

This is the fabric I have for my diaper bag. I got it at the Los Altos Art & Wine Festival. The vendor also threw in the matching coin purse. I have this large tote/diaper bag with bright flowers on them like this one pictured below.
