Food, Books & People

Just got back from a really fun mom's night out. Well it was my own time out type of thing. I go out once a week to do whatever I like. Sometimes I like to hang out at a local cafe and read or knit with a glass of wine or a hot cocoa. Sometimes I meet up with other friends. Tonight I joined a friend's food writing group/book club. It was great to actually hang out and just talk about food while eating food and talking about a book about food. I didn't think a group ever existed and I got so excited. Wow I can spare J all my foodie tendencies and just talk about food. Now my new challenge, can I conjure up a food writing experience to share with the group every 2 weeks. Ooh. I'm so glad they have a food topic otherwise I'd be all over the place.

Enjoyed a 2007 Don Miguel, Melbec from Argentina.

Life without Plastic

Looks like a great site for those limiting the use of plastic for their food and drinks.

Working out with Moms

I just finished my first workout with StrollerGym today with Jennifer. Lucky for me I got 1:1 on training. Well depending on your perspective its great to get that kind of attention. The class definitely kicked my butt. I haven't been to a gym in 6 months and casual walks around the neighborhood hasn't kept me in shape. So I told myself that I will commit to at least 12 sessions with a goal to lose 1lbs a week.

The great thing is that we're outdoors at a park. I went to the Tuesday 11am session at Rinconada Park. B stayed with me in the stroller for the jogging party and I put her on a towel on the grass while we did pushups/lunges and situps. It was a nice warm up and cooldown and I felt my heartrate was up there for most of the workout. Next time I'll probably wear my heartrate monitor.

So my goal to improve my diet/health/mind:
local/sustainable/organic(if possible) fruits/veggies/dairy/cheese/meat
decrease processed food intake including cereal and snacks
lots of water and some milk/dairy
lots of sleep
exercise 3x a week for at least an hour
limit dessert to once a week and make it count
limit wine and it has to be a really great dinner or dessert
meditate daily
do something creative/art/music daily

Don't Underestimate Teens

I hope someday I can also challenge my kids to think and to act on things that will make a difference in the world.
