Was strollying Salon and found this Q/A with the author of Parenting, Inc. It gave me and J a chance to really talk through how we spend our $ on things baby/parenting related. I think after 5 months of parenthood, we've seen ourselves consciously resisting the urge to sign up for many workshops that don't seem essential and resisting the marketing out there to "buy" what's necessary for our child to get ahead. It's all about coming back to the basics I guess. It's an exercise in discipline and because of our small home, not getting anything unless it's absolutely necessary or can fit into limited storage space.

I couldn't put this book down. The author reminded me of my time off in Napa for 30 days and then why we headed off to Hong Kong for several months. Same principles of grow spiritually, physically, intellectually and just enjoying the culture through its people, food, drinks and interactions.

Pretty rich story weaving intergenerational women in war torn Afghanistan. Very moving and touching, at times I want to close the book because of the vivid depictions of marital abuse, but also wanted to continue to read because of the loving relationships between the women. If you enjoyed Kite Runner, you will enjoy this book as well.

NPR - Fresh Air from March 25, 2008 interviews the author of _Ten Year Nap_ fiction novel relating the story of a stay at home moms who gave up their professional lives to raise their children. I'll be curious to check out the book.

Unfortunately we will not be able to attend this summit this year in Miami. There are just many things going on at the same time that will conflict with having to travel so far especially with a baby. More podcasts this year please!
