Hunt for Multi-Function Sofas

It's time to give up the Ikea daybed I got last summer. It really doesn't suit the style we like but it definitely comes in handy when people stay overnight. I was purusing Dwell magazine recently and came across some amazing samples of the updated "futon" couch motif.

Apt_NY: Lounge in Lime

Mobelform: cabrio-in (under products/sofabeds) They have an amazing assortment under the sofabeds and wallbeds. The cabrio-in is a bed and desk in one. The desk rises when the bed is unfolded. This would be ideal in a dorm or small office/guest room.

So as you can tell we're trying to make the office more inviting and relaxing when doing writing or emailing but also be useful when we have a guest. If we end up moving to a large metro city it would be great to have this type of furniture for economizing on space.

Design within Reach also a few that were quite interesting.

Following Alicia

I don't know if you ever saw one of my posts about my friend Hechung and her preemie baby that was born at 24 weeks gestation. Well here's Alicia at a new website, Call Me Alicia.

She has been recovering well and just looks great! I'm so happy that she pulled through such a challenge. God has definitely blessed this child.

I have to admit lots of the advice in the article is true. My one month in Napa led to many decisions that were life changing and truly awesome. So the next time you are feeling the ultimate stress of life, head to a spa!

All the Leaves are Brown...

and the sky is gray

Fall is here and with such an easy summer it really is difficult to believe that we're really halfway into October. The mornings have a crispness to it and crawling into bed has a bit of the chilliness that I don't usually expect. Nothing that a nice eletric blanket on a timer can't take care of.

In two weeks it will officially be the end of daylight savings. Halloween and Thanksgiving are already being passed up by Christmas decorations in many stores. Why are we in such a hurry to see the end of the year? I want to savor today to its fullest. Experiencing all of God's beauty in nature and all the people I spend my time.

Full on with Children's Writing

A great fundraiser to support a local non-profit coop preschool for disadvantaged families who live on the peninsula.

Family Connections Author's Night, November 8, 2006 at Hiller Aviation Museum.

Please come support this worthy cause that gives children an early chance to excel in school. This organization relies solely on donations and grants to survive, no monies from local, state or national government

Just got back from a Children's Writing Workshop in Davis, CA. It was quite tiring since there was so much information to gather on the process and to hear directly from an editor describe her process it was amazing. I'm probably going to submit my lizard story to her. I hope somebody picks up my storybook.

Just registered for another workshop that will be a whole weekend. A nice whole weekend to write and get critiques and to just learn more about the process of writing and getting published. Quite intense but it will be nice.

Random Stuff Today

I started reading _Stop Your Cravings_ and there was a recommendation for a quick sweet warm treat...it's basically warm milk with cardamom, cinammon and some honey. I really like it. It helps me calm down from a busy day and it's nice to have while reading a book. It's similar to a chai latte without the black tea. My own honey spiced milk.

Sweaty Knees
I had one of the hardest workouts today. I knew it was very challenging when I was doing some weights while on my knees and I could see the sweat prints on my knees...not a pretty sight. However it's awesome to know I was working hard enough to have sweaty knees. I need to start seeing some results soon!

Writing for Kids Again
Started to do revise my lizard story again. I head off to Davis for an all day writing workshop. I'm probably going to sign up for a whole weekend retreat in Asilomar as well since it will help me get more stuff out. Going over all the publishers in children's book was a bit overwhelming since I'll have to write special cover letters for each submission. I'll keep everyone posted on how the submissions go. They usually take anywhere from 3-6 months to respond. I'll probably blog the whole experience in case others are thinking of doing the same thing. For now, I highly recommend the Society of Children's Writers and Illsutrators as a resource for getting started and being more professional about writing.

Happy Birthday to gal at gym

...I would whine but it's really kind of sweet.

Saturday if you were a guy, you hoped that your wife didn't see the Mercedes R parked in front of the gym with the big red bow and Happy Birthday sign on it. You probably even groaned and realized that your wife/partner/gf would see it and of course the bar would be set really high for your next gift.

On Saturday if you were a gal, you swooned over such a romantic gift and wished your husband/partner/bf would surprise you with something really sweet. Wondering wow, that guy is a total keeper!

When I got to my group workout, everyone was congratulating the guy in class for such a nice surprise. Some waited after the class to see her reaction, others just walked by to check out the car. I think it was just really neat. Happy Birthday D-.

It's all done!!!!

I'm done with my final. I had great time management the past 2 weeks and didn't have to do work this week!!!! I know many have been praying for me since I really felt peace in the morning. 3 hours and 30 questions turned out to be ok. I actually only used a little over 2 hours and recognized many of the questions from the unit quizzes. I have to wait about a week for the results, but I felt really good about it. Celebrated with J over lunch and now I'm going to go crash.

Final Exam in Managerial Accounting

I'm getting closer to completing the certificate in business administration...and J is ramping up applying for b-school. We've been both sitting at the kitchen table the last several days. The final exam is 2 days away and I've been studying all day today, and actually for the past 2 weeks. My brain is going to explode soon. I've skimmed the chapters, reviewed all my quizzes, did extra problem sets, reread formulas, and reviewed objectives. I'm so anxious right now. I guess I should skip the latte(which I don't really drink) before the exam which of course is 3 hours with 30 multiple choice questions. I should schedule a nice lunch and spa treatment afterwards... details after Friday on results.

I'm really excited to get this done and over with. I can get back to my knitting projects, visiting with friends, maybe take some cooking lessons, and best of all get back to working on my cover letters to the publishers and revising my lizard story. I'm hoping to start submitting to the publishers by Thanksgiving or even try submitting to some children's writing contests. We'll see. I'm taking everything one step at a time.
