Exciting News about J's Company

I guess it's public now. American Healthways & Lifemasters have merged.

So this was one of J's company major competitor. I had a feeling they were planning to get acquired or IPO this year since there was rumbling that auditors were looking at the books and LM was hiring like crazy. I remember when J started about 5 years ago and there were only a hundred or so people. In the past year they are more than double that number. It reminded me of AV many years ago hiring like crazy just before they were planning to go IPO until the bubble burst.

Right now we're not sure what happens to J's department however it looks like headquarters is in Nashville, TN. I guess my cousin VO would be excited if we are offered a job move. Who know's? Right now we sit tight with business as usual.

For the Kid Inside Who Never Went to Summer Camp

I'm not going to complain that I never went to summer camp. I just remember how poor we were growing up. Of course I can rant about how my parents didn't know how to save or manage or even budget their income...but of course summers were left running around the park, ducking into the George Nye library or Cerritos mall for really hot days...and just staying home doing nothing like most kids. But one thing that I had always wanted to do was go to summer camp. So when KJR sent me a link for luxury camp for grownups I just had to write about it. Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort

I think I'll have to consider this for J's sabbatical.

Book Exchange & Book Lists

I found this UC Berkeley Summer Reading List quite interesting. I was thinking of hosting another book exchange party in the next month or so. You know like last time, bring some books hang out for cocktails and wine and be ready to share something interesting about the book(s) you bring...

From the Land of Oz

oz_052006.jpg

Our friends Johanna and Richard who are originally from Australia, but who we met at The Vine in Hong Kong and who have just recently finished missionary work in Indonesia came to visit us and do a tour of the Americas. They just left this morning and was super sad that their stay was so short. I'll post photos of our adventure to Alcatraz, Santa Cruz boardwalk, Lombard, Golden Gate, Haight/Ashbury, and Oakland A's game shortly.

I wish them many blessings for a safe trip to South America and other parts of CA.

Procrastination and Accounting

So I'm into the 2nd week of my online accounting class. I was surfing like crazy to research the clothing industry's manufacturing process which was kind of fun. Now I'm on a problem that requires that I create a report from scratch. I'm probably doing all the typical things to procrastinate. You know keep getting a glass of water, go to the bathroom, rearrange my desk, rearrange the cupboard, get rid of expired products in the fridge, and even consider doing situps and pushups. I know it sounds pathetic. I know I'm feeling bloated too. So I sit here writing this entry instead of pencil to spreadsheet and just write out the report. Ok I know I have friends and family in accounting but how can you guys do this kind of work? I know for my personal finances I'm pretty much focused but when I have to write a production report for a grinding department for some company that manufactures industrial cleaning compound it's difficult to say I'm really excited. Can you hear the cheerleaders in the background? Quite deafening! Oh well I should definitely finish this up since I need to get into week 3 reading and assignments ahead of the Wallace's visist for several days.

Please think good thoughts for me. This is the LAST class for my certificate in business. I've been dragging so long on this already...just need to get it done and over with...and hopfully will be retained in my brain when I actually need to track costs for consulting/contracting.
