Whining Part 2: Find, Locate, Search, Look For It...
Whine  |   Link

It's been a few years now since I first got hooked onto the web and first entered my first search query into a web search box. So Google gets me what I want most of the time, but it's not always the only search engine I go to. Just like newspapers, I like to go to a few other engines to get a good mix of what I'd like to get.

My search experience...

Search(Google, Alltheweb, Teoma, Ask, Altavista);

Repeat
Open browser(Google);
Enter search query, hit button(Google Search);
Repeat
Review the Page(Next);
Until fed up;
Until satisfied;

Does it sound familiar?

Well there are millions out there that do same thing. But are we ever really satisfied? I guess depending on what your goal is, but more than likely you aren't. Is there any harm? Yes there is. You have a frustrated user trying to either locate an exact site, find comprehensive information, or just trying to see what's new about something. I'll spend my many hours in my lifetime always trying to find information.

So what's the next generation of search? I guess if you keep your eyes open on Search Engine Watch or Search Tools you'll probably find something you like. For me, I'll just continue to do my daily routine for finding results at a variety of search engines or that meta-engine. Maybe I'll eventually find what I'm looking for, maybe I won't, but hopfully I'll enjoy that journey getting there.
